In this week's exercise, we will look at a very important aspect of possession soccer, which is developing the understanding of when to maintain possession and when to penetrate to score.
In recent years the role of the goalkeeper and defenders in possession has gone from them getting rid of the ball as quickly as possible to the need for them to be comfortable in possession. The exercise below is great for developing this ability and confidence on the ball in a small small sided game.
This week we will take a look at some variations to a common exercise, the Y drill. It's a great technical warm up exercise to work on your player's passing, movement, communication and with the variations below, you can incorporate other areas of the game such as shooting and 1v1s. We spend such limited time with our players so this is a great way to be economical with your time.
In this week's Exercise of the Week, we will have a look at a 1v1 exercise to goal that your players will love. This is personally one of my favourites because it's fun, the players will score lots of goals and it incorporates transition as well.
Following on from last week's Inside Youth Soccer - Exercise of the Week, which you can read here, we are keeping with the technical passing warm up theme but focusing more on technique and the timing of movements.
